Volleyball

So, have you ever watched volleyball....high school volleyball. Last year was my first year watching and I thought it was going to be so boring. Surprised myself. I love watching this sport. My daughter is on the JV team and they had a tournament and came in first place! The picture below is of the team with their plaque. GO BLUE! This is Terra getting ready to serve. I just love how she serves....gotta watch, can't explain it.
Here she is getting ready....so intense.
This next picture is of her and a couple of her friends. These girls are great...hope they all stay that way.
There was also a freshman pool in this tournament and Calumet Blue freshman took first place. Looks like Calumet will have another good year. I know the varsity plays this weekend. Good luck girls.

The Copperman Triathalon

The 19th annual Copperman Triathalon took place on August 7th in the Harbor. It's a 1/2 mile swim, a 20 mile bike ride and a 5 mile run.
My brother-in-law was a competitor and we also had some friends competing as well. This is Mike before the race...wetsuit on and ready to roll.
Putting on the stylish cap they give you.
Jayann doing the final zip.
Mike-transitioning from swim to bike.
Mike on the run.
Lookin' good!

One of Pepper's classmates.

This guy is in great shape!

Arn-dog. Wish I could make running look easy like he does.
Coming back. Almost done!

The finish line is just a little ways up and around the bend. Hats off to these athletes!
After the event we had Mike, Jayann and my in-laws at the camper for lunch.

Camping Photos

The following pictures are from when we went camping to the Harbor. Terra and Katherine decided to go kayaking. Here they are with their life jackets on waiting for the kayak to be taken off the truck.
Walking it to the water.
There they go! It was so fun to watch them.
They paddled around in Fanny Hoe for about a half hour.
I tried to get good pictures of them but they kept paddling away.
This one seems to be the better of the shots.
Terra didn't want her picture taken.
This is another good shot of them.
Took a picture at sunset of a freighter going by. Love watching the boats.
S'more time!
Katherine roasting her marchmello.
Terra roasting her s'more. Later some more of the girls showed up but they stayed up too late for me.

Some Craftin' Goin' On

Do you remember a few posts back where I showed you some things I found at our local Goodwill store. Below is a picture of those items to remind you. They are all nice pieces but I had something in mind for one of the candlesticks and the cheese dome. I asked my father-in-law if he would saw down one of the candlesticks and he was nice enough to do that for me and he even leveled it off for me.
I sanded down the cut candlestick and the wooden part of the cheese dome and then gave them a coat of primer. After the primer I sprayed them with an ivory paint. Them I glued them together and VOILA! What do you think?
Isn't she cute?! I have been seeing these all over blogland. I definitely did not come up with this on my own. Kudos to whomever dreamed this up. There are some really great blogs out there that re purpose items that people get rid of......you would be amazed!
I have a dish I bought at a rummage sale and I am going to use the other candlestick for that. I'll have that candlestick cut shorter and then glue it to the bowl. It will not be ivory. I have chosen pink. I really am not a fan of pink but I thought the bowl was cute. Of course I will take pictures....and post them on the blog.

Sillyness

Nathan and Terra were being so very silly when he was over last week. We are so lucky his Daddy lets us spend so much time with him. Nathan and Terra love to stick their tongues out when I am trying to get a picture.
Was trying to settle them down so I could get a nice, sweet picture.
Yea!!! No tongues, no sillyness. I love when these two get along. It is so much easier when there is no fighting going on!

Relaxing By the Fire

My Mom and Dad were out at the Fort too. They came by to sit by the fire and relax. Nathan enjoyed his ice cream on Oma's lap. Mom and Dad just got a new-to-them camper and came out on Saturday.
This is my sweetie enjoying the fire. He does so much for us that I am so glad he is able to relax by the fire with us.
This is my dog, Daisy. She was nervous for most of the weekend because of the booms of the cannons going off. She does not handle that well. She finally started to settle down when we were all by the fire. My poor dog....

Playing at the Park Playground

After Eva and her family left, Nathan wanted to head over to the playground. What the heck. We had nowhere to be. So....he played, I watched and took a couple pictures.
He can be such a little daredevil! There weren't too many other kids there so we didn't stay long. It seems like we stay longer at playgrounds when there are other kids there. He had fun, got a drink out of the fountain and then we were on our way back to the camper. It was getting to be time to eat so we had to get back and help with supper.

Eva's Visit

A friend's daughter was in the U.P. visiting and she stopped by our campsite to say "Hi". It was so good to see Eva. I haven't seen her since she moved! She and my oldest son are close in age. It was wonderful to meet her husband and her two children. The kids played in the back of the van with some toys until it was time to go.
They all played very well together and shared the toys!
Aren't they just adorable. Lily is just so sweet!
This is Eva and I before they had to go. I wish they could have stayed longer.
Nathan gave a big hug to Peter and said "I'm gonna squeeze the live out of ya!" I thought poor Pete was going to pop! So cute.
Then is was Pete's turn to hug. He gave Nathan a big hug and kiss. Awwww! I think they could be good friends. Hopefully they'll be able to play again sometime before they graduate from high school.
Thanks for stopping by Eva. It was really great to meet your husband and kids and to see you again. Don't be a stranger.

Fort Wilkins Re-enactment

We decided to go and watch the re-enactment at the Fort on Saturday morning. Nathan was relaxing before we went. He loves to get out of his clothes and relax with his Grandpa.

We were lucky that he kept his unders on....usually those are off too! He's so funny!
Here we are on our way to the Fort. Thought this was a really cute picture then Nathan turned around and stuck his tongue out at me. Sassy little boy! Got that shot!

This is the Battery D actors. I guess you can call them actors. They travel to many different forts and put on the re-enactment.
Here they are preparing to fire a cannon. They are training some younger men so it took a little longer.

More preparation for cannon fire. I wasn't close enough to hear everything the gentleman was telling the crowd. I was patiently waiting for them to fire so I could get a decent shot of the cannon going off.

Almost ready to fire.

WOW! That was loud! Nathan and I both jumped when that thing went off! I did manage to get a good picture of it. So cool!

The firing teams. They all have their spots they need to be in.
It was really neat to watch this and it is so very dangerous for them.

This is the sign behind the fort guiding people to the campground.

This sign is right before the bridge behind the fort.

We definitely enjoyed the cannon fire show. We kept hearing it from our campsite through out the day. Each time it went off everyone stopped and said "There goes another one!"
